NIGAC Project on State Education Board in Nigeria

The state education board in Nigeria stands as a connection between the Minister of State and other sections within the department, other departments, public bodies, education partners and the public.

The basic education in Nigeria is provided primarily by the states and/or local government authorities(LGAs) with 72 per cent of enrolment, followed by the private sector of 20 per cent, federal schools and 4 per cent from religious schools respectively.

It is however mandatory for the Nigeria education board to cater for the total welfare, monitoring and implementation of all policies established for the success of Nigerian education in all its facets.

The present insecurity in the country with the pandemic currently waging war against the progress of Nigeria education which has overtime been a hard nut to crack for the education agency and its body.

The insecurity in the country denied the Northeast children, rural area dwellers in the Southwest, Biafra agitation in the Southeastern part of Nigeria the ability to acquire good education despite the effort and contributions of UNICEF conjoined with other local and foreign advocates of education for all in Nigeria.

The pandemic came and added salt to the injury of the affected education which was staggering to gain its stand despite all the joint efforts from all the stakeholders involved, it exposes the students to online scamming, betting, prostitution, abuse, and many atrocities in the country.

The Ministry of Education could have done better to avoid the long period of ASUU strike which birthed different groups that the students were introduced to; the #ENDSARS agitation, cultist initiation, yahoo plus plus and others in the search of a goodly living and social media display of financial achievement.

The platform created for the benefits of young school students were practically abused with the ingenuity of financial report and the non-implementation of funds promised to the youths after the agitation of #ENDSARS protest.

NIGAC Constructive Solution/Take

The Nigeria government and ministry of education have lost the power of trust in the mind of many of its citizens, owning to many of its approaches in different tabled matters by them. It will therefore be of great value to seek another way of penetrating their trust in the youths who believed that there’s no truth in whatever comes out of any of the government or its agencies.

It is however good that the government has finally listened to the demand of the populace in replacement of the service chiefs, howbeit, the ministry of education should seize the opportunity in demanding for a considerable number of security officers to many of the affected areas that insecurity has deprived the students of schooling.

The ministry also should check its provision of Covid-19 materials for proper functioning as many of these facilities have become dusty and not functioning very well, owing to the mismanagement and misuse of the supplies; some of these places lack replacement of finished liquid soap, hand sanitiser, tap running and proper temperature checkup, all their concerns are wearing of nose mask banner at the entrance of the schools.

The Ministry needs a serious campaign for quality or qualitative education as a means to end mediocrity in the country more than before, and the information about the implication of shortcut to living among the youths. It will also be a good example to eradicate bribery and negligence among the member of its agency. Promotion of some trusted online pages about the benefits of schooling and its advantage should be considered with the possibility of erasing the evil belief of ” education is a scam” among them.
